International Society for Labour and Social Security Law

Background Information

The ISLSSL, housed in the International Labour Organisation in Geneva, was formed in the 1950s to provide (among other things) a forum for discussion about the relationship between national systems of labour law, and how international and national labour law influence each other. For further background information, visit the web-site: http://www.asociacion.org.ar/ISLLSS/

ALLA's application for affiliation with the ISLSSL was accepted at a meeting of the international body's Executive Committee on 3 September 2002 in Stockholm, Sweden, held in conjunction with the 7th European congress of the ISLLSL. Ron McCallum attended this meeting on behalf of the Association, and with Richard Mitchell represented ALLA at the European Congress. Thanks must go to Gordon Anderson of Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, who provided a formal letter of support for ALLA's application.

As a result of the affiliation, ALLA now has a 'voice' in the decision-making structures of the ISLSSL. ALLA members also receive the opportunity to become involved. Information about the World Congress, Regional Congresses and other activities of the international body will be passed on to ALLA members on a regular basis.

The minutes for the VIII European Congress of the International Society of Labour Law and Social Security Law which took place in Bologna (Italy) from September 20 to 23, 2005 can be found in the following link: http://www.labourlawbologna.com

The "electronic" book's structure reproduces faithfully the meeting's formula and time schedule (opening ceremony, welcome greetings, plenary sessions, workshops and closing session). As a general rule, reports and speeches have not been reviewed or corrected by the authors and are to be regarded as mere transcripts. I preferred to preserve the 'proceedings' feel of the text to reproduce faithfully the liveliness and the richness of the Bologna meeting debate days. Papers and abstracts which have already been sent to the Scientific Directorate can be freely viewed on the Meeting's website.

Thanks to all those involved in the preparation of these reports, which required a significant amount of detailed information to be compiled on various aspects of Australian labour law and social security law. This enabled ALLA to meet an important obligation of affiliation to the ISLSSL.
