Michael McDonald, SC and Michael Tamvakologos addressed the topic: Misleading and Deceptive Conduct in Employment: Issues and Remedies. Professor Marilyn Pittard chaired the session. The Victorian Chapter of the Australian Labour Law Association held a Panel Discussion 'From WorkChoices to Forward with Fairness: Reflections and Predictions' on Thursday 3 July.
The Panel featured Professor Andrew Stewart, John Bray Professor of Law, University of Adelaide and Legal Consultant, Piper Alderman, Dr Jill Murray, Senior Lecturer, School of Law, La Trobe University and Tess Hardy, Solicitor at Baker & McKenzie and was chaired by Professor Marilyn Pittard, Faculty of Law, Monash University and Consultant, Clayton Utz. Associate Professor Bill Hodge addressed the topic Bargaining in Good Faith: Lessons from the New Zealand Experience for Australia. The operation of an overarching principle of good faith in employment relations in the Employment Relations Act 2000 (NZ) is of particular relevance to Australian Labour Law as many critics of the enterprise bargaining regime in the Workplace Relations Act 1996 (Cth) have argued that its effectiveness and fairness would be improved by the inclusion of such a duty.

The Victorian Chapter held its end of year function at the Monash University Law Chambers. ALLA's special guests were Justice GM Giudice, President of the AIRC and Constitutional Law expert Professor George Williams, from the University of New South Wales.

The Victorian Chapter held its final seminar for 2003, in conjunction with the Centre for Employment and Labour Relations Law (University of Melbourne) and the Monash University Law School, on 'Federalism and Labour Law: EU and Italian Systems'. Professor Franco Carinci, President of the Italian Association of Labour Rights and Social Security, was the main speaker.
